Jesus Blasco made the Steel Claw
my favourite character when I was
a kid. I couldn't understand how he
drew the way he did, just that it all
seemed so real.
An interesting side note-- the four
tier layout of the pages was to
allow the art to be cut, hinged and
folded along the horizontal gutters
( I have never seen a title page so
I don't know how that was cut.) I
was once told that the pages were
treated in this way to avoid some
sort of import duty when Jesus
Blasco, living in Spain, sent the art
to the UK-- But if anyone knows for
sure I'd be interested to hear.
